1892 East Restaurant & Tavern | 1892 is a great little spot in Five Points. The Five Points area is up and coming so we love to periodically check it out to see what’s new over there! We went to 1892 a little early on this day, around 11 AM. We were the first people at the restaurant and seemed to catch the staff off guard! We were seated almost immediately and placed our orders quickly. They had no problem seating our party of around 10 people, but, again, we arrived before the main lunch crowd. Our waitress was friendly and professional. We enjoyed our time here!
This was my second time trying 1892. The first time I ordered their chicken pie. This time I was a little surprised that there had been no changes to the menu, since it has been almost a year since we had last been. (The menus even seemed a little worn/dirty.) The wait staff seemed a little bored. There was inappropriate rap music playing when we were seated and we had to ask them to change the music. After we ordered, it took a while for our food to come out. I think everyone’s order was correct and the food was all very good.
I didn’t really care for the interior of the restaurant – the lighting was too dim and the pictures on the wall weren’t very tastefully hung. The decorations were sparse and not very tasteful, in my opinion. The restaurant decor gave off a cold, vacant vibe to me.
WHAT SHE ATE:
I selected a crispy chicken sandwich. The chicken had a really delightful texture; a perfectly crispy/crunchy breading. But it wasn’t seasoned very well (not much flavor at all) and the chicken was a little tough/overcooked on one side. The French fries were really good, really crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The plating was very pretty and the house-made sauces were really good as well!
We arrived just in time for the restaurant to open. The restaurant waitresses we had were very attentive to our needs throughout the visit without pestering. The music was great and created a pleasing ambiance. The colors of the restaurant were calming and relaxed me while I was there. I definitely think this is great restaurant for groups, as the dining areas were quite spacious. The speed at which we were served was excellent as well, given that we had a pretty large group. The presentation of the food was wonderful as well, as it all was very pleasing to the eye. I would give this restaurant a 4.5/5 for experience, because I genuinely enjoyed my time there.
WHAT HE ATE:
The food was great, and everyone at the table seemed to thoroughly enjoy their meal. I got the 1892 burger, which was quite good when I added bacon and a fried egg to it. The overall flavor was great, though I think that the patty may have been just a bit overcooked since I could taste the burn flavor while eating it. This was not a huge deal, and I would still suggest this burger to someone if they were to give 1892 a visit. The sweet potato fries were delicious! They were perfectly cooked and seasoned and added a great side to the already great meal. I don’t think that the burned flavor being gone would’ve made it the best burger I’ve ever tasted, but I still think that the burger deserves a 4/5 for me! It was delicious, timely, and had the perfect amount of spices on it! I would definitely eat there again and suggest it to anyone looking for a good meal with friends!
Today I got the special shrimp sandwich. To be honest I really don’t know much about it. I was busy talking to a few of our international guests of the week. This week they arrived from South Africa via Virginia. Interesting couple. 1892 is always a great spot to go to.
WHAT HE ATE:
Pretty fancy, but doesn’t break the bank, you know. The fries today were just the right amount of crunch on the outside with a nice potato filling to wash it down. They were the kind of fries that are so flavorful and so good that you almost don’t even have to eat them in order to like how they taste. Overall it was 5/5 for everything. Great Job
Walking into 1892, I felt like everything on the menu was going to be super expensive. However, everything on the menu was around 12-15 dollars. It was super cold in the restaurant, which is what detracted from the experience so much, but the service was great.
WHAT HE ATE:
I ordered the daily special, which was a shrimp sandwich. The overall flavor was good, it very much reminded me of “bang-bang shrimp” on a sandwich. The fries very closely resembled Five Guys in appearance and flavor. The only complaint I really have it that there wasn’t much shrimp on the sandwich at all- maybe 4 or 5 pieces. If you are going on a date and want them to think you are spending more money than you really are, go here.
Today we had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant 1892 in Five Points Huntsville. We were quickly seated in the back where there was a larger table setup for us. This is a nice and chill environment for any occasion. If grabbing a bite with a friend or a business meeting, this restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and would be nice for any of those meet ups. I ate the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. While definitely better than my chicken sandwich at Beauregard’s, it still did not seem as great as it could have been. The fries were a great side though, and are on my top five fry list. With local history and local pictures on the wall, this is a great restaurant to eat at with family and friends.

I had never been to 1982 before today, but I had always heard its praises sung from every person ever. I would say it lived up to expectations, maybe a little lower, but that’s just because everyone always talked it up a lot. We went to lunch earlier, at 11:00, so it was almost empty when we first arrived. There was no wait time and our waiter was very good at her job. However, my only complaint is that it was way too cold. Just because it’s hot outside, does not mean you have to make it freezing inside. Besides that, it was a good experience 4/5
WHAT HE ATE:
It’s kind of odd how small the menu selection was, but maybe that’s because they claim to be all fresh. The burger was cooked really well and the fries were some of the best I’v had. Don’t get it with egg though, it stinks. The egg spills over everywhere and gets super messy. Without egg I think it would be near perfect. This is usually the point where I say you should probably go somewhere else if you’re looking for the best experience, but this is a rare case where the restaurant might actually be my first choice if you’re looking for expensive-ish formal food. I’d give their food a 4.5/5
This is the first time for me at this particular restaurant! We were celebrating my birthday and Mr. Clearwater suggested that we visit 1892. Thankfully the restaurant hadn’t quite filled up with guests and we snagged a large table. Our orders came out pretty fast!
WHAT SHE ATE:
My chicken was fried perfectly and the bun was nicely toasted. The only drawback was that the chicken was very dry and didn’t pull apart nicely when I took a bite. Other than that, everything was great!
