Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar was highly anticipated by the Huntsville community previous to its arrival on Memorial Parkway in September. Located in the new Times Plaza between Baumhowers and Whole Foods, this burger joint serves mostly unique hamburgers, but also has chicken sandwiches, salads, and lots of bar food type appetizers from which to choose. Numerous large TV screens are visible from practically any seat in the restaurant, providing entertainment for any customer waiting on their food.
Fried Pickles - $7.95
Hand-breaded pickles served with traditional ranch dressing
Fried pickles are kind of our tradition. We order them any time we get a chance. The fried pickles at Bad Daddy’s are a little different from most in that they are pickle spears instead of pickle chips. These fried pickle spears had a good flavor, but they didn’t have much breading on them and got soggy pretty quickly. Baumhower’s also serves pickle spears, and we still think Baumhower’s are the best around.
Buffalo Chicken Wings - $11.75
Served with blue cheese or ranch dressing & celery sticks. Tossed in your choice of traditional Buffalo or Thai chili sauce
The wings we got at Bad Daddy’s were huge and juicy. These wings had great buffalo sauce on them which wasn’t too spicy but still had that classic buffalo kick! Bad Daddy’s wings were loaded down with meat – these are no skimpy wings.
Today Huntsfull made their way to Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. This restaurant opened a few months ago and is always packed! The atmosphere is dimly lit with a modern feel to the decor. We were seated right next to the kitchen in a booth, which was not a problem most of the time, but the traffic of servers and the noises in the kitchen got a little loud sometimes. With three TVs, music, a large crowd, and being right next to the kitchen made for a loud experience as well, so if that is not what you like, this may not be the restaurant for you (I personally did not mind it).
WHAT SHE ATE:
Create-Your-Own Burger w/French Fries - $14.00
For an appetizer, we got wings and fried pickles. I loved the wings, they had a good amount of meat and great sauce for them. For the main course, I ordered the create-your-own burger with American cheese, lettuce, applewood smoked bacon, with a medium-well burger on a gluten-free bun, with a side of their fries and a lemonade. The lemonade, in my opinion, did not have a great taste. It wasn’t sour or sweet, it was just bland. I did enjoy the cheeseburger, although I was not overly impressed with it, for the price point and I am just not sure I can recommend it. I can definitely recommend their fries! They have great fries. I’d say this is a great place to visit at least once, and you will receive great service and good food, but a big bill.
Bad Daddy’s was really talked up to me by my friends and family who got the chance to visit before I did. Walking into the restaurant, it felt like I could be in the same building as Baumhower’s, Drake’s, or Beauregard’s. The environment is that of a typical sports bar, with abundant TV screens and greasy food. We got a table quickly and didn’t have to wait long for our waitress to take our drink and food orders.
WHAT SHE ATE:
BD's all-American Burger w/Fries - $13.00
Ketchup, yellow mustard, shredded iceberg lettuce, tomato, red onion, & pickles
I tried the fried pickles, buffalo wings, BD’s all-American burger, and their French fries. Nothing I tried really stood out as “great” except the buffalo chicken wings. They were huge, with lots of meat on them, and juicy. Loved the sauce. The Bad Daddy’s sauce was pretty good, kind of a creamy barbecue sauce. Overall, I felt that my burger was kind of lacking for any special quality, especially for the price.
Today Ebony took great care of us over at Bad Daddies’. I really liked their thin spear fried pickles. You can’t go wrong with fried pickes of course, but I’d say that there’s was up there with the best.
WHAT HE ATE:
Maui Tuna w/Shoestring French Fries - $12.95
House-ground tuna steak seared to your liking with arugula & crisp wasabi slaw on a multigrain bun. Served with Thai chili sauce
I got the tuna sandwich for my main dish, and tbh, i think I ordered it a little overcooked. If you end up getting the tuna, tell them to just sear it for like 1 second and give it to you still mooing. That was my bad though, so I don’t blame the Bad D. Thank you.
Bad Daddy’s is somewhere we have been trying to go since it opened. The wait was suprisingly short (probably about 15 minutes) and all of the staff members were extremely nice. The restaurant had the typical sports bar feel, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We ordered fried pickles and buffalo wings as the appetizer, which were both very good. The pickles were lightly breaded, and cut lengthwise rather than into small coins. Because of the light breading, they were not soggy on the inside either. I prefer my wings to be crispy, so these weren’t my favorite, but they were still really good. They had a medium level of heat and plenty of meat on the bones.
WHAT HE ATE:
Bistro Burger w/French Fries - $13.45
Applewood smoked bacon, smoked Gouda, grilled onions, arugular & a chipotle avocado crema
My main meal was the Bistro burger, which has sauteed onions, bacon, arugula (I asked them to leave this off, but it normally comes on the burger), and smoked gouda. There was some sort of chipotle sauce on the burger as well, but it wasn’t super spicy. The flavor of the burger was pretty good overall, but I kept getting a little bit of sweet flavor coming from it, which I thought was weird. If I were to go back (which I probably would) I would try the “build your own burger option”.
