BEAUREGARD’S | Opening in 1995, Beauregard’s is widely-known in Huntsville. Known for their sports-bar type atmosphere and serving delicious wings, Beauregard’s also offers other kinds of chicken, hot dogs, fish, and burgers, etc.

We had been looking forward to visiting Beauregard’s since it is a local Huntsville place with a fun atmosphere. Although we all thought the food was very good, we were all a little disappointed with the service we received and the length of time it took  for us to get our food. (1 hr., 16 mins.)

THE APPETIZERS

We all agreed that the appetizers were great! They came out within about 20 minutes from us being seated at the restaurant. Almost all of the appetizers on the menu are fried, so just be aware of that!

Bacon Cheese Fries - $8

Everyone agreed that the French fries were one of the best parts of the meal. Crispy and flavorful, the fries were seasoned well, with plenty of pepper.

Fried Pickle Spears - $7

We agreed that these were the best fried pickles we had ever had. The breading fell off the pickle as soon as you took a bite, but the flavor was really delicious.

Fried Green Tomatoes - $7

The fried green tomatoes were also really good – no complaints here. The house ranch dressing was also a huge hit.

Fried Shrimp - $9

Similar to Bang Bang Shrimp, this dish was pretty popular with our table. The crunchy coating was complimented by the smooth bang bang sauce.

The Engineer

The experience overall was pretty poor. The food was quite late to come out, though it was a game day, so I could understand that. There were also quite a few hairs in my food, which was definitely not appetizing. Other than the food, the restaurant itself was clean and organized, which was nice. This didn’t help them recover from the rest of the experience, but it was a nice breather. I probably wont be paying too many visits here in the future.

WHAT HE ATE:

Shrimp Basket - $14

I ordered the 20 fried shrimp with fries. The food was actually quite good (if you don’t include the hairs that I didn’t order). It was flavorful and I left satisfied. The presentation of my food was pretty good, and as I said before, the flavor worked really well. I have also gone to Beau’s Kitchen (same owner of Beauregard’s) in New Market, and it was absolutely amazing, so I know they definitely have potential. This restaurant just didn’t really have it all together.

The Apprentice

At first, Beauregard’s would seem like the perfect place to grab some wings, watch some sports, and relax with friends and family. There is plenty of seating along with a dozen or so large screen TV’s. The chairs are comfortable and pretty much any where you sit you have access to a TV.

Now for the bad news: it took about 15 minutes for our waiter to take our drinks and orders. Then our food arrived 3 plates at a time, with 10-15 minutes between. I was one of the blessed. I received my food in the first wave so I only had to wait about 20 minutes, but the rest of our party had to wait up to an hour to receive their food. Personally, I would give Beauregard’s another chance just to see if this was a one-time occurrence. However, didn’t have to wait an hour for my food like some of my co-workers did. In the end I would give the experience a 0/5 with a chance of redemption.

WHAT HE ATE:

Beau's Wings - Traditional Regular 1 lb. (half honey-glazed, half regular) - $10

Award Winning Buffalo Style Wings served with French Fries, Celery, Ranch, or Bleu Cheese Dressing

IMG_7292

Now, on to the food. If you’re one of the lucky ones and you don’t starve to death or die of old age waiting on your food, it’s pretty good. I had 7 wings, 4 reg, 3 honey-glazed, and fries. Both flavors of wings were amazing and the fries were awesome too. I ordered my meal without blue cheese and celery. However, upon getting my meal, both items I asked specifically not to include, were there. Not a big deal at all, as I just took them off my plate, but surely an oversight by the kitchen. Be warned, long wait times and a mediocre staff may not be worth the juicy nirvana that awaits you.

Wise Pat

Let me give you a little background on my food experience before the review. Chicken would be the food item that I have eaten more than anything else in my life, but specifically fried chicken. Hypothetically speaking if everyone was reincarnated into a food item I would be reincarnated into a piece of fried chicken from Chick-fil-A. But just to be clear, my tongue has eaten the most posh fried chicken, Chick-fil-A just happens to be the one I eat the most frequently.

WHAT HE ATE:

Beau's Wings - Boneless Regular 1 lb. (Mango Habanero) - $10

Award Winning Buffalo Style Wings served with French Fries, Celery, Ranch, or Bleu Cheese Dressing

Beauregard’s boneless wings have many flavors to choose from and I got Mango Habenero, it was quite tasty. The heat is just right for my pallet, makes my eardrums tingle just a little. Portion size was as expected for boneless wings and temperature also good. Atmosphere is great for football games!

WHAT SHE ATE:

Bacon Cheeseburger - $8.50

Beauregard’s is a natural choice if you are looking for a low-key lunch or dinner meal. That being said, avoid game-days and peak lunch-time crowds. While I enjoyed my bacon cheeseburger, a perfect amount of melted cheese and crispy bacon piled high on-top of a fresh bun, my experience was lessened by the wait time and seemingly uninterested staff.

The Boss

We were seated fairly quickly but our waitress came to take our orders several minutes after we sat down. She seemed to be flustered and wasn’t very friendly. As I glanced at the menu, most things were fried (to be expected at a sports bar), so I went to the salad section, but all of the salad options were very basic/boring and almost identical in the ingredients. I chose a Buffalo Chicken Wrap with French Fries.

The appetizer plates that came out before the main course were dirty with visible food/sauce residue on the three I looked at before giving up on finding a clean plate.

WHAT SHE ATE:

Nothing - $10

After waiting for our food for an hour, I asked the waitress not to bring my food out and to please take it off the bill, as many of us were already finishing up our meals. She denied my request, saying, “It’s ready in the back.” I asked her to go ahead and pack it up, since we were almost ready to leave. She brought it out several minutes later, not in a box. The presentation of the buffalo chicken wrap I ordered was really lacking, consisting only on buffalo chicken tenders inside a flour tortilla (I asked for no onions due to a food allergy, but the waitress said the onions and peppers came together, so she would have to take all of them off). The waitress didn’t even bring the side of their “famous” ranch dressing I requested. I ended up packing up my whole meal and giving it to my boss to eat later. I was extremely unimpressed with the waitress’s lack of care or attention to detail to my requests.

The Detective

Good parking, nice exterior of the building, and they were quick to seat 11 people. Unfortunately, after they seated us it took several minutes for someone to get our drink and appetizer order and even longer to bring them out. We did finally receive our appetizers and they were awesome. We ordered our entree’s and waited… and waited… then they brought out about 4 of ours and the other still waited… They ended up bringing the other plates out in 15 min. increments. We ended up taking a 2-hour lunch break for what should have been only an hour. Not pleased with the efficiency of the staff. They also were not apologetic which leads me to believe this is a common thing.

WHAT SHE ATE:

Club Sandwich with Fries - $10

Ham, Turkey, Bacon, with Homemade Honey Mustard, served Wheat Bread

IMG_7305

I ordered the Club sandwich on wheat bread with fries on the side. It was very tasty, with turkey, ham, and several types of cheese between the layers of meat, toasted bread, and homemade honey-mustard. Very good food, not-so-great service.

The Hipster

Beauregard’s is a pub-meets-bar, football-watching hang out with two sections of the restaurant (one to eat as a group with a bar in the center of the room, and then a separate room with at least twelve big TV screens for your viewing pleasure). We waited about an hour and a half before our food arrived. When we arrived, there weren’t many other customers and seemingly plentiful staff around. Over the next hour, lots of people came to watch the Auburn basketball game that was on.

WHAT SHE ATE:

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich w/Mild Sauce, served with French Fries - $9.50

Fresh, All Natural Chicken Tendres (fried), smothered in Mild Buffalo Sauce, served with Pepper Jack, Lettuce, Tomato, and Ranch on White or Wheatberry Bread

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich at Beauregard's

So to be fair, they got my order correct – Beauregard Chicken Sandwich, with mild sauce, no tomatoes, and a side of fries. This sandwich had two large, fried chicken tenders inside and was difficult to hold so they would not fall out.  The lettuce on the sandwich was kind of pathetic, it was the end of a head of lettuce, all white and no flavor, which I can safely say everyone dislikes, and it promptly fell out of my sandwich due to it’s bulkiness. All of the hot sauce was mostly on one side of my sandwich and the sandwich buns were so soggy. The fries were very good and the chicken tasted good as well.

The Hipster’s Overview: All of the aspects of this restaurant are great, especially if you’re looking for a guys’ night out, but execution and presentation of the food were definitely off that day. If you do plan to go, make sure you are not-so-hungry to start, because you will be pretty hungry by the time you receive your food. They could have just been having a bad day, but we want to be honest, and we did not have a good experience.
