Edgar’s Bakery | Today was the soft opening for Edgar’s Bakery at their new location at the corner of Airport Road and Memorial Parkway. A few of us had visited their location in Providence before today, but this new location is very close to our office so we have been so eagerly awaiting their upcoming opening for a few months. Edgar’s is best described as a high class bakery with some delicious breakfast and lunch options. The food is all fresh and delicious and the cakes and pastries are skillfully baked and decorated. Anyone would be proud to have an Edgar’s cake at their special occassion!
Update: Since we first visited a week ago, we’ve been back once to pick up a to-go breakfast order for the office. Edgar’s has had a lot of success and a great turn out since they officially opened but we still had no problem ordering and getting our food quickly. The staff is so friendly and accomodating and all of the food we’ve tried has been absolutely delicious. As we perused the menu for our breakfast order a sweet lady behind the gleaming pastry case smilingly said, “Would anyone like a pastry?” directing our attention to the huge, fresh cinnamon and orange rolls. Of course we couldn’t resist and we certainly didn’t regret giving in to our sweet tooth!
Being invited out to Edgar’s for their Friends and Family sneak peek was such an honor! Since this was their soft opening, there was no wait to order our food and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We were handed paper menus from which we quickly selected our entrees and ordered at the front counter. Just a few minutes later, our food was brought to our table. Everything was plated beautifully and tasted even better than it looked. One thing we appreciated was the portion sizes were perfect for lunch – not too big, not too small – so we left feeling great with our hunger satisfied!

Pesto Chicken Sandwich w/Mac n' Cheese and Chocolate Cake Slice - $16.25
Chicken, feta, peppers & pesto ailoi on ciabatta bread
My pesto chicken sandwich included the bold flavors of pesto, grilled chicken, feta cheese, and tomato, all on toasted, fresh bread. The blend of flavors and textures was phenomenal and the bread was toasted perfectly. My mac n’ cheese was made up of big spiral tube noodles (cavatappi?) coated in cheesy, garlicky, and creamy goodness (my only dislike was that it wasn’t super hot when it arrived on my table). Several employees, including management, checked in on us while were eating, which we really appreciated! We were thrilled with our great first experience with Edgar’s, especially since it’s very close to our office. We will certainly be visiting a lot in the future!
I had been to Edgar’s once before at the Providence location but it was for breakfast. Today we were invited to the soft opening of the new location on South Parkway! Everything about the experience was great – the building was clean, everything looked organized, and the staff were all friendly and well put together.
WHAT HE ATE:
Chicken Club Sandwich w/Baked Potato Salad - $12.50
Chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, & ranch dressing or honey curry sauce on grain & seed bread
I ordered the Chicken Club (without tomato, per usual), which came with kettle cooked chips and baked potato salad. My meal came out quickly, and everything was cooked perfectly. I’m not certain if everything was freshly cooked from scratch or not, but it certainly tasted like it. The bread was toasted nicely, the chicken was tender, the cheese was melted perfectly, the lettuce added the perfect texture, and the ranch was the nice “final touch” to pull the sandwich together. The potato salad tasted like it was freshly made, there wasn’t a disproportionate amount of mayo or mustard mixed in that overpowered the dish, which was nice. It was some of the better potato salad I’ve had around the area. The kettle chips were pretty standard, but that wasn’t a bad thing, it’s hard to have a lot of variation with plain potato chips. I’d definitely go back for a brunch or breakfast type meal.
Our experiences at the other Edgar’s locations have been awesome and the new location was amazing as well. The service, the atmosphere, and the food were all amazing and I cannot wait to go back. The location is great for south Huntsvillians meeting up with friends for literally any meal at any time of day, or even just a coffee date! I loved everything about the people there as they were so kind and pleasant providing a friendly environment. Speaking of environment, the clean, white, modern feel of the bakery was so inviting and I loved the look and feel of it. Edgar’s sells their coffee blends and other sweet items seemingly seasonally, as I saw spring items and trinkets for celebrating Easter and some Mardi Gras theme colors. There was also a children’s area with little tables and chairs, which is so precious and I know will be such fun for them. Also, along a wall in the bakery are sea turtle paintings which brought me so much joy. I love those sea turtles.

Cobb Salad w/Side of Fruit, and a Mocha Hazelnut Coffee - $17.50

I ordered a Cobb Salad with chicken and a separate side of fruit. For my drink, I ordered sweet tea which was so smooth and refreshing – some of the best sweet tea I’ve had in Huntsville. The salad was the best salad I have ordered in Huntsville as well, the vinaigrette, the toppings were so tasty and look and tasted amazing. The salad was full of green and not just parts of the lettuce core, making it way tastier of a salad. I had coffee at the end of my meal and the ladies behind the counter recommended that I add hazelnut flavoring to my Mocha. It was smooth and so tasty, I’ll definitely be going back for their food and their coffee. I really loved my experience there and recommend anyone to go there any time for any occasion.
Today, for my “plat principal,” I had the California Eggs Benedict. Although I do have something inside of me that just really doesn’t want to like something named “benedict” (hopefully for reasons that are obvi to our American followers), I do say that eating something so delightful is almost enough to make me betray my own country just to have another bite, so I guess the joke’s on me, and it’s the most duly named dish OAT (Of All Time). The “Edgar’s Blend” coffee is, and I don’t say this without understanding its gravitas, is the best coffee in HSV. Go to Edgar’s and get a big cup of coff and a huge piece of their chocolate cake and you’re welcome. The end.

If you’re on Whitesburg and you’re being tempted to go to that chicken fast-food restaurant that starts with a C, I’d recommend you just go a couple blocks away and go to Edgar’s instead. They treat you just as good, their coffee is WAYYYYY better and they have dominant chicken food along with all the other meats and delicatessens that you’d want, too. Yep.
