Taco Mama | This Taco Mama location is right downtown, a short walk from the square or Big Spring Park. It is in the middle of an up-and-coming shopping/apartments center. The walk to the restaurant from wherever you parked is pleasant, as the aesthetic of the area is clean, new, and well-kept.
The Taco Mama restaurants give off a laid-back, t-shirt and jeans, fun kind of vibe. The bright decor and friendly staff makes you feel cheery and welcome at the restaurant. A host greeted us before we even walked in the door and handed us menus to speed up the ordering process. The same host monitored the restaurant to make sure the guests had everything they needed during their stay. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit!
Taco Mama is rivaled only by Little Rosie’s in Huntsvegas as far as comida Mexicana goes. The location is a little more difficult to get to than your average fast food restaurant because it does not have a parking lot devoted solely to it. That being said, the seating is usually very accommodating and the staff tries to get you through the line as quickly as possible. We all got our food within 5 minutes of sitting down, some of the fastest service around. Great service and great environment.
WHAT HE ATE:
The Hippie Fisherman - $10
Flounder (grilled or fried) or grilled shrimp with ancho chile slaw, avocado, tomatoes, roasted poblano tartar
All of the food I’v tried at Taco Mama has been very good. Today I got the Hippie Fisherman burrito with shrimp and a side of queso. Their queso is a must have if you go here. Their chips are much thinner and crispier than most other places, but I personally really like them. The Hippie Fisherman was very tasty and the shrimp tasted great. The only thing I would change about the burrito is the amount of avocado it contains; there was too much for me. Remember, try their queso. Food was a 5/5.
Taco Mama gave off a hipster vibe, and was located downtown, which really created a great atmosphere. The food came out about as quickly as Jimmy John’s, which I was very impressed with. All of the employees were super nice and the experience was a 5 all around.
WHAT HE ATE:
Yo Mama - $8
Ground beef, shredded cheddar, lettuce, tomato, sour cream with side of queso
The food was pretty good as well. The chips are too thin for my liking, as it feels like they turn to sand when you chew on them for one second. Their queso is probably the best in town, and their salsa is really good as well. I added fresh jalapenos to my burrito, and they were each 1/3 of an inch thick (with none of the white meat or seeds taken out). I had to pick the jalapenos off because they were so large, but the burrito was pretty good other than that.
Taco Mama was a great experience! The room was clean and was welcoming in terms of environment. The speed at which the food was brought out was fantastic, even though they were a little bit busy. The presentation of the food was great, and I had a wonderful experience there! I would recommend this to any size group. They have plenty of space, and also have small tables for smaller groups.
WHAT HE ATE:
Chicken Quesadilla - $9
The Food was excellent! I ordered a chicken quesadilla with a lot of veggies on it. I also had some sour cream on the side, which I would highly recommend, because it is a little bit dry without it. I think that the chips were unique and also really tasty as well. They are super thin, but still very tasty. They also don’t really have the capacity to stab the top of your mouth when eating them cause they break to easily. I think the food was fresh and delicious, and would recommend them to anyone. 4.5/5
I really enjoy my visits to Taco Mama. I’m not really sure if that’s because of the happy, clean restaurant and good food, or the large amount of food they give you, or maybe it’s just the fact that I really love tacos. I haven’t ever had a bad experience at Taco Mama, even though I’ve been to both Huntsville locations multiple times. They’re quick to get the food out, too, so that always makes everyone happy!
WHAT SHE ATE:
Classico Beef Tacos - $8
I’ve found that whenever I stray away from the Classico Beef Tacos, I regret my menu decision. The simplicity of these tacos is hard to beat – beef, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes… what more do you need on a taco? I recommend the soft taco shells (I think you get more meat inside that way!) and the queso as your side. The salsa is fresh and not super spicy. I think it goes great with the rest of the food served at Taco Mama!
I loved the atmosphere of Taco Mama. It has a vintage, funky feel to the decor, bold art, and neat lighting. It’s a cross between a Mexican restaurant and a Cracker Barrel. The service was very quick and we were able to find a table large enough to accommodate all of us right away.
WHAT SHE ATE:
Burrito Bowl, Ground Beef - $8
I ordered a Yo Mama Burrito Bowl, with no tomatoes, with a side of refried beans. I loved the bowl, but I was not impressed by the refried beans. The beans really had no flavor at all. I also wasn’t a fan of the chips and salsa, but that is a personal bias. I prefer thicker salsa that isn’t as sweet, but for some reason this salsa tasted sweet to me. Overall, I was very impressed by the Burrito Bowl and the environment I got to eat in and can’t wait to go back!
