THE COZY COW | The Cozy Cow is a downtown Huntsville staple. Right in the middle of Big Spring Park, this popular lunch spot is very welcoming, yet, as its name suggests, cozy and inviting. The location of the restaurant is off of Church Street, so parking right next to the spot is scarce, but a short walk through the beautiful park was a welcomed break from the humdrum office.

The Detective

Experience: “Cozy is the right word for this cafe. It would be a nice place to go for a cup of coffee with a friend or to grab something to go. Unfortunately, because it is cozy, it can quickly become cramped during the rush of lunch because of the small amount of seating. We had a group of 9 and we sat at 3 different tables spread out within the restaurant. Besides that, the decor and the aesthetic of the place was quite nice!” – The Detective

WHAT SHE ATE:

Matt Burger - $7.95

1/4 lb. Angus burger, cheddar, swiss, bacon, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and hot sauce (served with BBQ chips)

“I ordered the “Matt Burger” with no hot sauce, BBQ chips, and some water. It was a large burger with melted Swiss and Cheddar cheese, bacon, and grilled onions, along with your normal burger toppings. I like a burger that stays together when you bite into it, and this did just that! The bacon was the perfect chewiness, the cheese was melted on well, and the burger was juicy. The BBQ chips weren’t as tasty as I would have liked but they were kettle cooked and Gluten free so I guess they were as good as they could’ve been.” – The Detective

The Hipster

Experience: “The Cozy Cow is a delightful little restaurant in downtown Huntsville. This place, like it’s namesake, has a cozy cafe atmosphere, completed with cow decor interior. The Cozy Cow has an up kept environment and is very clean indoors. Our team, and a few friends who joined us there, were a very big group in such a cozy space. We also arrived at noon time, which is a high traffic time. The Cozy Cow serves salads, soups, burgers, smoothies, coffee, and desserts. Today I shared a BBQ Bacon Burger with The Boss. We ordered it without any jalapenos. Along with the burger, I ordered the Lime Lagoon smoothie.” – The Hipster

WHAT SHE DRANK:

Lime Lagoon Smoothie (w/added protein) - $5.15

strawberry, lime, raspberry

“The burger in and of itself was juicy and scrumptious, everything you want a burger to be. While the bacon was hard to chew, it was still very delicious. See The Bosses review for more info.

Now, to be perfectly honest, I have had the Lime Lagoon smoothie before. All of the smoothies, as stated in the menu, are made with a lactose-free base. The Lime Lagoon is complete with strawberries, raspberries, and lime, and a choice of added protein. Because it is so delicious, I keep coming back to get it. As I described it to my fellow team members, it is like drinking a strawberry cloud. It is so fluffy and light, very well made.

While a tight fit for such a large group, I loved the experience and will be going back.” – The Hipster

The Engineer

Experience: “If I had a dollar for every time I had been to The Cozy Cow, I would have one dollar! This is definitely not because it was a distasteful place to be, but because it is in a bit of an obscure location. The restaurant itself is rather small, and thus hard to find. It’s size also lent itself to being quite a cozy place if you don’t mind sitting close to strangers. The overall layout of the restaurant was quite simple, and the cooks and servers were all in casual clothing. It wasn’t super fancy and could definitely be a great restaurant to attend with family. I would avoid large groups though, as there is not a lot of room in the restaurant for people to stretch their legs. The registers ran a little slow as we were waiting in a short line for a while just to order, but once we did, the food came out pretty quickly.” – The Engineer

WHAT HE ATE:

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich

(daily special - not featured on the menu)

“I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak combo meal, that happened to be the special for the day. It was pretty good, though it seemed bread-heavy, which overwhelmed the meat and cheese a little bit. I haven’t had many Philly Cheese Steaks in my life, but of the ones I have had, they were always loaded with ingredients and filled to the brim! this one in particular seemed a little skimpy on the ingredients, though what was in it was still delicious.

I would recommend this place for people who are looking to hang out with friends or potentially find more friends in the close proximity!” – The Engineer

Mr. Clearwater

Experience: “Today at The Cozy Cow, I ordered the Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwich (daily special), a side of kettle chips, and a light roast coffee (w/ 3 creams \ (•◡•) / ). I didn’t realize that it came with bell peppers, so, to be honest, this sandwich didn’t exactly have my name on it. As my side, I ordered a bag of chips… I know… I didn’t set myself up for having tons of material for this review… Soooo… I’d rate the sandwich a 2.6/5 stars, but again, I’m not big on bell peppers. On the other hand, the light roast coffee was very tasty and I’d rate it at 4.3/5 stars. The service was good, so I’d give it a 4.3/5 stars rating as well. Overall I’d say that The Cozy Cow Experience scored a 3.5/5 stars.” – Mr. Clearwater

The Boss

Experience: “We arrived at The Cozy Cow, right next to Big Spring Park, on a cold, drizzly day, right at noon. The restaurant was crowded (it has a very small dining area) and we had to wait several minutes to find seats enough for the nine of us eating that day. It seemed that the kitchen took up the most space, and the seating area was pushed out to the edges of the establishment to make room for the kitchen. The staff was friendly and welcoming and we were able to quickly place our orders at the front counter, which is right inside the door. Sandwiches, burgers, salads, and smoothies were the main items on the menu.” – The Boss

WHAT SHE ATE:

BBQ Bacon Burger - $7.95

1/4 lb. angus burger, pepper jack, bacon, mayo, jalapenos, and bbq sauce

“I ordered a BBQ bacon jalapeno burger and split it with The Hipster. I also got a bag of Jalapeno Cheddar Metro Deli Kettle Cooked Potato Chips and a cup of water. The chips were great (less spicy than other brands I’ve had) but the water didn’t taste good. The food came out, handed over the counter, fairly quickly. The burger was pretty large (plenty for me and The Hipster to share for lunch) and was very flavorful and juicy. We got it with no jalapenos on it since neither of us were feeling up for that amount of heat today, but it still tasted great!” – The Boss

The Apprentice

Experience: “Where the burger was caught lacking, the staff and environment of The Cozy Cow definitely picked up the slack. I was served by a very friendly employee who was eager to offer advice and suggestions on what to eat. The wait time after ordering was about 10 minutes. The seating arrangement is somewhat limited, so if you plan on going during peak hours, or with a large group, you will want to plan ahead and save seats.” – The Apprentice

WHAT HE ATE:

BBQ Bacon Burger - $7.95

1/4 lb. angus burger, pepper jack, bacon, mayo, jalapenos, and bbq sauce

“I can’t multitask, so I’m not sure what I was thinking when I ordered a BBQ cheeseburger at downtown Huntsville’s “Cozy Cow”. When eating a burger, a person should not be thinking, “man I could really go for some BBQ right about now.” Unfortunately, this is almost all I could of while eating this burger. However, while the tastes did not mix well for me, the patty and the execution was very well done. Overall, if you’re the type of person who doesn’t usually order new things, I wouldn’t start with this burger. That being said, if you do love trying new combinations this would be an interesting burger to try.” – The Apprentice

Wise Pat

Experience: “I would recommend The Cow for sure! Great views. Good people. I recommend The Cozy Cow, following your traditional club sandwich. Special Instructions, no problem; bread extra crispy toasted, as I requested. The team also made haste of a long line of orders right at 12:00 o’clock. Tasty selection of sandwiches with a nice view of the Big Spring Park. Have leftovers… feed the squirrels, coy fish, or ducks.” – Wise Pat
