Walton’s Southern Table is one of those places you visit for the first time and think, “How and WHY have I never been here before?!” After discovering it with the office last year, we have returned several times, every time enjoying each visit more than our last one! We have always received excellent service and even better food when dining at Walton’s. Their classy southern dining experience will make you want to come back as often as possible.
Strawberry Pretzel Salad
This dish is a southern tradition that Walton’s does right! Though the dish is served as a side, our piece of strawberry pretzel salad was enormous and we shared it for dessert amongst several of us at the table. The salty pretzel crust, cool, creamy middle, and the fun strawberry and Jello topping all come together to make a great, refreshing dessert for any time of year. It’s really the perfect way to end any meal at Walton’s!
This was my first time visiting Walton’s. The interior of the restaurant is very calm and relaxing. It’s not super bright inside but most of the tables do have cool old-timey looking lamps to provide extra lighting if necessary. We were seated very quickly but only because we had a reservation. As this was my first time going, I’m not sure how quickly people usually get seated but if you plan on going during lunch or supper I would recommend reserving ahead of time. Our waitress was very nice and timely with refilling our drinks, checking on our table, and making sure all of our food arrived.
WHAT HE ATE:
Chicken n' Dumplings w/Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Macaroni and Cheese - $11.95
For all of the entrees on the menu you can select it with either two sides or three sides, it’s a lot of food either way. The chicken and dumplings were very good and cooked to perfection. My mashed potatoes and corn were also both very good but I didn’t really like the macaroni and cheese as the flavor seemed very off and not cheesy enough. Overall I enjoyed my first time at Walton’s. If you are looking to go somewhere with family or to meet someone for lunch, Walton’s provides a laid back, very delicious, slightly pricey way to do just that.
Walton’s Southern Table always brings the best food to the restaurant table. They have the best service with great food. The atmosphere they have is inviting and pleasant to be in which pairs nicely with their southern comfort food. I always enjoy my time at Walton’s Southern Table & I hope that everyone can have the pleasure of eating there. When someone asks me for my top recommendations for Huntsville food, Walton’s is always on the list.
WHAT SHE ATE:
Kala's Grilled Chicken w/Pinto Beans and Mashed Potatoes - $10.95
Topped w/Fried Green Tomatoes, Monterey Jack & Bacon
Today I had the Grilled Chicken with Monterey cheese and bacon on top and pinto beans and mashed potatoes as sides. I thoroughly loved the chicken and pinto beans (and it was enough for leftovers!). As for the mashed potatoes, I was not so crazy about them as they were more on the dry side. I am sure if I had asked, they would have brought out another serving, but I did not ask. Other than that, everything was delicious! Great service and food, make for a great lunch or dinner meal at Walton’s Southern Table.
Today our party of nine was seated immediately upon arrival since we had made reservations. We sat in the back corner of the restaurant, which made conversation easy to hear, but the way the restaurant is set up there is plenty of privacy and any seat in the restaurant is a good, quiet one. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant and was quick to take our drink and food orders. Our food was out in no time and everything was plated beautifully.
WHAT SHE ATE:
Rosemary Baked 1/2 Chicken w/Macaroni and Cheese, Sweet Potato Casserole, and Strawberry Pretzel Salad - $14.90
I ordered the Rosemary Chicken. I ordered the 1/2 instead of 1/4, not knowing how large the portion would be! I definitely couldn’t finish my dish and brought home plenty of leftovers! For my sides, I ordered the macaroni and cheese and the sweet potato casserole (since we’re still in the holiday season!). I also ordered a piece of the strawberry pretzel salad to share with the others at the table. As always, everything I ate was as perfect as possible! The chicken was tender, juicy, and infused with rosemary essence throughout the meat. The mac n’ cheese tasted great with a slight garlic hint in the seasoning. The sweet potato casserole wasn’t the best I’ve ever had and I didn’t care for the stringy texture, but the flavor was excellent. Walton’s comfort food remains my top choice in Huntsville!
Today we had the pleasure of visiting Walton’s! We have been here a couple of times before, and it never disappoints. I’m normally a fan of bar food over comfort food, but for me, Waltons makes the gap between them smaller. The waitress was super nice, kept everyone’s drinks filled, and got our food out quickly!
WHAT HE ATE:
Country Fried Steak w/Mashed Potatoes, Mac n' Cheese, and Fried Green Tomatoes - $12.95
Today I ordered the Country Fried Steak, which was easily bigger than my face, so come hungry. My three sides were Mashed Potatoes, Mac N Chez, and Fried Green Tomaters. The large, thinly sliced piece of steak had a nice crispy texture and a fairly neutral flavor, but I asked for them not to put gravy on it, so that explains why. I still really enjoyed the steak, even though I could not finish all of it. The mashed potatoes seemed to be home-made, as there were still some potato skins in it. Here again, I requested the gravy be left off the potatoes, I guess I wasn’t in the mood for gravy today. That’s ok though because the potatoes had a great home-made flavor! The mac n’ cheese was very good as well, the only thing I would have changed about it was having a thicker cheese sauce. The fried tomatoes here are the best in town. They are thinly sliced and fried perfectly. They had just the right amount of salt, and the spicy sauce that came with them complemented them perfectly.
If you have an evening that you’ve decided would be good for vegging out, a great place to go beforehand is Waltons. Walton’s country fried steak is the perfect portion (about 3x what you could actually eat), has tons of gravy, and tastes amazing. If a country fried steak isn’t putting you to sleep, don’t ever go back to the place that served it to you.
WHAT HE ATE:
Country Fried Steak w/Fried Okra and Mac n' Cheese - $11.95
Walton’s CFS will knock you out faster than Mike Tyson. Throw in some fried okra and some mac and cheese and you’ll catch z’s like Sleeping Beauty, so make sure you Repunzel on over when ever you get a chance. Our waitress was very nice and super fast to refill our drinks.
The experience was wonderful! The waitress, Annie, did a fantastic job of serving us! our drinks were always full, but not as full as our stomachs as almost all of us took home plenty of leftovers. The serving sizes are generous, so make sure to only taste a little of everything before you get too full to try it all! The atmosphere has a very homelike, country style and the staff has fantastic hospitality! I would say an easy 5/5 for me; this place is very welcoming and I would recommend it to anyone, though I don’t know how much help they need as they basically have a line out the door for lunch!
WHAT HE ATE:
Fried Catfish and Hushpuppies w/Hashbrown Casserole and Fried Green Tomatoes - $10.45
I really went out on a limb and tried something I don’t normally eat. I tried the fried catfish filets, which is not always my first choice at a restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the fantastic flavor! It wasn’t too “fishy” and had a nice fried finish. The sauce they brought out with it was super flavorful and had a nice zesty kick to it that didn’t overpower the food. The sauce was supposed to be for the fried green tomato side that I ordered, but I ate it on everything because it tasted so good! I also ordered the hash brown casserole as a side, which is essential to any meal there, as it is my favorite dish they have! everything came out in a very reasonable time, especially for the lunch rush, and the food was all cooked to perfection! Overall fantastic food and experience!
